Carrot seed oil is steam distilled from the dried seeds of the wild carrot plant. This plant is a European native with hairy leaves and delicate white lacy flowers with purple centers. Carrot seed oil has a mildly sweet, dry, earthy aroma. It has a rejuvenating effect on many body systems. A grounding oil, it can support the body during times of stress and exhaustion. It also has a mild diuretic action that helps to eliminate toxins, and its healing properties assist the body in revitalizing problematic completions and nourishing dry and mature skin.

The mild diuretic effects help the body in the reduction of excess fluid retention. This detoxifying oil also supports the efficient functioning of the liver and strengthens the digestive system.

As part of a massage blend or a relaxing bath, carrot seed oil is deeply warming, helping to ease aches and pains and boost circulation throughout the body.

Carrot seed oil is highly valued in face and body creams to nourish, tighten, revitalize, tone, and rejuvenate tired-looking skin. This oil encourages healthy cell growth and strengthens hair and nails. It's calming properties also support itchy and irritated skin.

There is information floating around the internet stating that carrot seed EO has and SPF of 38-40, this information is a little misguided. The study that this claim is based on is a study measuring the UVA and UVB blocking properties of various herbal sunscreen preparations. Carrot seed EO was only 1 of 3 ingredients in the sunscreen that got a 38-40 SPF rating. So yes, carrot seed oil may have SPF properties, but the exact SPF rating is still not known. It doesn't hurt to use it, but there are no guarantees as to its effectiveness when it comes to sun protection.

Carrot seed blends well with bergamot, cedarwood, cinnamon, fennel, geranium, ginger, lavender, lemon, lime, orange, neroli, patchouli, tangerine, and tea tree. Possible substitutions include cistus or rose.
